When Does The 2012 Hyundai Accent Come Out?
The 2012 Hyundai Accent is due to go on sale in spring 2011.
2012 Hyundai Accent Prices
Expect 2012 Hyundai Accent prices to increase because of the added cost of new electronic features, particularly the antiskid system. The 2011 Accent GL had a base price (before adding the destination charge) of under $10,000. But the four-figure Hyundai is almost certainly part of the past.
Still, competition in the subcompact-car segment is intensifying as recession-weary shoppers look to maximize their automotive spending and minimize fuel consumption. And fresh new entries, such as the Ford Fiesta, have renewed interest in a class no longer viewed strictly as a budget destination but as a smart choice for people who don’t really need larger vehicles.
Expect the 2012 Accent GL to start around $11,000. (Estimated base prices in this review include the manufacturer’s mandated destination fee. Hyundai’s fee for the 2011 Accent was $720 – and it’s likely to increase slightly for model-year 2012.)
At the upper end
of the model line, ex
pect the base price of the 2012 Accent SE to remain below $18,000. Above that price point, Hyundai buyers would likely be tempted to move up a category in size to the compact-class 2012 Hyundai Elantra, which will offer models starting under $18,000.
Unlikely to change for model-year 2012 is Hyundai’s strong warranty coverage. This has been a very successful program for Hyundai and should again cover the Accent for 5-years/60,000-miles bumper-to-bumper and 10-years/100,000-miles powertrain. Less common in this category, current Accent buyers receive 24-hour roadside assistance at no extra charge for 5-years/unlimited mileage. The service includes emergency towing and lockout service. There is no deductible with Hyundai’s warranty coverage. While the original purchaser gets a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, this coverage is not extended to succeeding owners. For those who purchase a used Accent, the warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles from the date the vehicle was manufactured.

2012 Hyundai Accent Competitors
Honda Fit: As the segment leader in sporty fun and practical function, Fit faces new competition from model-year 2011 onward. Among aces up its sleeve is a roomy rear seat that can be folded to create a very large cargo space. Fuel economy tops out around 28/35 mpg, base prices should start around $16,000. Expect a facelift for model-year 2012 and a redesign for model-year 2014.
Fiat 500: Now in management control of Chrysler, Italy’s Fiat is coming back to America. Its first entry will be the 2011 Fiat 500. This is a small stylish two-door hatchback with a peppy engine, a 40-mpg rating, and a personality that should appeal to buyers looking for something unique. It’ll be followed by a convertible version and by a battery-powered electric model. The 500 will likely be priced slightly higher than the Accent.
Ford Fiesta: This car was new for the 2011 model year and competes in the heart of the subcompact market with both four-door sedan and hatchback offerings. It offers a wide range of models and trim levels, from rather basic to luxury-like cars equipped with leather seating and Ford’s acclaimed Sync infotainment system. Fuel economy is in the 30/40-mpg arena, a base-price range is around $13,900-$19,900.
Kia Rio: This is essentially the same car beneath the skin as the Hyundai Accent and will follow in its footsteps with a 2012 redesign.
Mazda 2: Sharing mechanical underpinnings with the Fiesta, the Mazda2 was equally new for the 2011 model year. Its aim is to be slightly more affordable yet sportier than Fiesta, sacrificing slightly in comfort. It won’t offer quite the Ford’s array of options and will be direct toward a more youthful segment.
Nissan Versa: With interior room rivaling cars a size-class larger, yet priced like a subcompact, the Versa lacks stylish pizzazz, but makes up for it with ample comfort and space in both four-door sedan and hatchback body styles. Fuel economy tops out around 28/34 mpg, and the lowest priced model comes in under $11,000 to challenge Accent for least-expensive new car. Most models are in the $14,000-$18,000 range. Versa’s scheduled for a model-year 2013 redesign.
